ANTHONY GRAFFEO, Ph.D

Tony is a veteran Senior Executive, C-Suite Officer, Entrepreneur, Consultant, and Board Member with significant success in biopharma, pharmaceuticals, research and development (R&D), medical products, science, and technology. Leveraging extensive experience in turnaround and innovation, he is a valuable asset for small to midsize similar-sector companies looking for restructure, new business development, and profit. His broad areas of expertise include international business; strategic planning; management consulting; entrepreneurship; leadership development; executive management; international marketing strategy; performance management; R&D portfolio management; mergers and acquisitions (M&A); and commercialization.

In his executive career, Tony has held leadership positions at Northeastern University; Graffeo and Associates (Founder/President); Battelle; Biodevelopment Laboratories (Co-Founder/Partner); and Arthur D. Little. Over the past twenty years, he has trained and coached leadership development and performance management to over 1,000 science and engineering executives and managers across the U.S., Middle East, Latin America, Mexico, and Europe. He has an excellent track record of turning around troubled R&D organizations and growing them into recognized centers of excellence. As a consultant, Tony has delivered high level consultancy on science, technology, innovation, and research to several clients in the Middle East, including the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR); Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science (KFAS), and the Kuwait Oil company (KOC). As a company’s VP and international markets director, he grew the business 350% and led its expansion into Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East. Tony took over an unprofitable business division of this company, and developed and implemented a strategy that grew the business to profitability and ~400% growth in 5 years. As co-founder and EVP of a spinout from an international management consulting firm, Tony immediately built its profitability, leading to the venture’s sale within 2 years at 300% ROI for investors. He had full and successful responsibility for P&L, product development, safety evaluation, scientific/technical staff direction, and key account business development, including Johnson & Johnson and Hoffman LaRoche. He also directed its good laboratories practice (GLP) and good manufacturing program (GMP).

Tony was recently appointed Professor of Practice at Northeastern University’s College of Sciences, teaching executive master degree program curricula in Biotechnology Leadership and Entrepreneurship.

Tony earned a B.S. degree and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Northeastern University; and an Executive M.B.A. from Pennsylvania State University. He has served on boards and advisory councils, including for Research Institute of Northeastern University.
